Milady Hartmann, the visionary designer behind Brownstone Playhouse, crafts one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality soft sculptures that spark wonder and creativity in children and adults alike. Drawing inspiration from classic folktales, fables, and the curiosity of childhood, Milady transforms imaginative stories into tangible, handmade textile characters. Her background in set and costume design for film and television, combined with formal training at New York’s School of Fashion Industries and Parsons School of Design, lends a unique artistry and precision to her work.

The Brownstone Playhouse brand began with Milady’s desire to create a playhouse resembling her own Brooklyn brownstone home. Unable to find anything similar, she designed a line of soft-sculptural toys and decor inspired by timeless storytelling. Each piece is masterfully crafted in limited quantities, designed in Brooklyn and handmade in Montreal, with the intention of becoming cherished heirlooms passed down through generations.
